They took him to the local shelter and we were contacted. Winston was seen by the vet and given a clean bill of health. He was transported to a rescue in Ohio.

Tiny Tim
minpin/doxie mix

Shep and his siblings were dropped off at the animal shelter with their mother. It appeared as if they had mange. We took them in and had them vetted only to find out they have "rat-tail" which is a form of ringworm. Fortunate for them Tracy with RePets knows how to treat this curable fungus and took the three of them in. Thanks Tracy!!!

Tommy and the gang

Tommy was one of 8 pups that were facing death at the shelter. A good friend and fellow rescuer called and asked if I had room to hold 8 puppies so they would not have to die. These babies were transported to Louisville, where we picked them up. The next day everyone received shots, wormer, a well needed bath and flea treatment. All but three were sent to Grant County where they are now in forever homes.Trinity, pictured further down on this page found a wonderful home in Rhode Island and poor little hairless Leona is still going through treatment before she can be sent out. Hopefully she will recover soon.

Mrs Priss

This cute little girl was looking death in the face when the shelter director called and asked if we would take her in. No one had stepped up to save her yet, but the director knew that if given enough time someone would want her. She was right!! About two weeks after picking up Mrs. Priss a rescue did contact the director wanting her. Thank God the director knows her dogs, if not this baby would be playing fetch with the other dogs that have crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. Good call Nancy.

Candy

Candy was only 6 months old when her owners decided they no longer wanted her. What a sad face! The shelter director found Candy a rescue, but needed someone to hold her until they could get her moved out. We picked Candy up from the shelter and had her vetted. Candy was then transported to rescue in VA, where she is now a happy resident.

Momma and 9 babies

These nine babies and their momma were left to die in a high kill shelter. When the plea went out to save them a rescuer in VA contacted the shelter about pulling them. Since the shelter is no place to raise a family, the shelter director contacted us about fostering them until they could be transported. Once again, we gladly jumped on the opportunity. Two weeks later they were on their way to VA.

Puggle and babies

This is just one of six little puggle mixes that found themselves in a high kill shelter. Look at the almost heart-shaped spot on his forehead! A rescue in Illinois asked us to pull and hold these precious ones and momma until transport could be arranged. They are now available for adoption in Chicago.

Perfect..aka..Rusty

Who could imagine that someone would not want this little angel. My 17 year old daughter fell in love with him from the first second she laid eyes on him..."he is perfect Mom." The sad news for her was that I already had someone looking for a sheltie to spoil. This little 8 lbs of cuteness was adopted by some really wonderful people and now he is the king of the hill. He will no doubt be spoiled for life. Thanks Kay and Wayne!!!

Elke

Elke's story is identical to Carrie's except for the scars. She was so scared being in a noisy shelter. We fostered her until a rescue in Canada took pitty on this sweet baby and decided to take her in. Elke and Carrie got to ride along together on their trip to rescue in Canada.

Carrie

Carrie was a scared old girl being left to die in the shelter. A wonderful rescuer in Lexington contacted me about fostering her until rescue could be found. Fortunate for Carrie a rescue in Canada saw through all of the scars and fear and realized what a special girl she really is inside. She is probably chasing moose in Canada right now. Have fun sweet baby!

Jack

Jack has been sent out to a rescue to find his forever home somewhere else!

Luke

Luke was surrendered by his owners to the shelter. We took him in and posted him out to a few fellow rescuers that was looking for a handsome guy like him. After about a month we managed to find him a ride with Linda of CRU, to Sindee's Strays in New York. Luke is now playing fetch with a new mommy, but I am sure he is just as spoiled.

Delsie

Yes, this sweet baby was named after me! Delsie was in a high kill shelter in Western Kentucky. I was contacted by a fellow rescuer/friend in New York that wanted to save her. We pulled Delsie from the shelter, had her vetted and held her for about 2 months until she could hitch a ride to New York. You can check out the wonder rescue that saved her "Sindee's Strays", in New York.

Albany

This precious baby was on a transport that I personally helped drive. She was one of 16 puppies going from Pikeville, Kentucky to Mag. Mutts in Illinois. After meeting with the next transporter in New Albany, our little Albany was lethargic. Instead of taking the chance on her making it the full transport, we decided to bring her back home. We immediately started treatment for parvo, but thank God she never broke with it. Our rescue held onto her for about a month until the next Chicago transport was scheduled. She is now a happy girl scampering around in Chicago.

5 great pyr mix puppies

The babies were dropped off in the backyard of an empty house that was just purchased. A kind neighbor contacted the new owners about them. Sadly the new owners were more than 3 hours away headed to a conference. They contacted animal control to see if they could keep them until they returned home. We were contacted to foster them and OF COURSE who could say no to such sweet faces. Three days later the owners returned to pick up the puppies they never knew they had. All have been placed in loving homes now.

7 hound mix puppies

The poor babies were dropped off outside of the animal control office in a soaking wet box. We took them in and held them until they could get transported to Chicago. Unfortunately, some of the puppies later died of parvo.

Jax
akita/pit mix

Jax had a rough start in life as a puppy, but a wonderful family adopted him and made him into a wonderful companion. Unfortunately, less than a year later, Jax' new family had a special delivery...their baby was born premature and only weighed a mere 2 lbs. All of their time was spent at the hospital with the new baby. They did not feel it was right for Jax to have to stay home alone all the time so they contacted us. We were hesitant at first, usually dogs like Jax are hard to place, but we decided to help this family out. We only had him for about 3 weeks until Jax was adopted by a wonderful family. Thanks, Latonya.

Jersey
3 month old Jack Russel/beagle mix male

Jersey was transferred to Grant County for adoption. Thanks Jeremy and James!

Twinky
Adult male St Bernard/Aussie mix.
A fellow rescuer took pitty on this poor guys sad face and asked if I could foster him. She paid for all his vetting but just needed a place for him to stay until he could be adopted. We were planning on taking him in right away but ran into some medical problems and had to have another foster home keep him. Being such a sweet boy the foster mom's brother decided to adopt him from the Shelter he originally was dropped at. Although we never actually had Twinky on our property, we still wanted to show his pretty face and share his wonderful story.

Dixie:

Claudia, our youngest daughter, brought Dixie home with her from a friends house one day. Claiming she was abused by the previous owners who then abandoned her. She's been with us for, maybe, 2 years now? Probably one of the smartest dogs we have. Once our neighbors horses were loose and she herded them back into his yard. She has no training in herding. She smiles whenever she knows she's in trouble. She's just an all around sweetheart.

River:

My old man River. 10 year old GSD and the love of my life. He is suppose to be a foster but this is his home. It will take an extraordinary home for me to let this guy go! One of the main reasons we adopted this fella was when Danielle's friend, Kina, flew in from Missouri. We went to the Bullitt County Animal Shelter to see Nancy and went to look at the dogs, Kina didn't leave River's kennel and ended up crying because he looked so sad. We adopted him the next day. He now will spend his remaining senior years being spoiled rotten by our family.

Molly

Molly came into our rescue and at first we intended to keep her as a personal pet. But she was somewhat of a handful and we already have seven of our own babies. She's super sweet and begs for attention. She'll cuddle up with you on the couch and tries to help you drive. Things didn't workout with her in her first home but now she's happy in a forever home in Indiana. Thanks Linda!
